The K‑Tek KPHW1 Mighty Boom Hodges Counterweight (Half) is a bottom‑mounted counterbalance designed exclusively for K‑Tek Mighty Boom boompoles. Weighing 1.1 lbs (0.5 kg), it reduces operator fatigue by counteracting the downward force created by a microphone and shockmount at the far end of the pole. This improves balance, stability and maneuverability, especially during long shooting days or when working with heavier microphone setups.

Made of solid heavy metal with a foam outer covering, the counterweight is durable, comfortable to handle and optimized for professional field use. Multiple units can be stacked for balancing larger payloads. Made in the USA.

Detailed Description

The Mighty Boom Hodges Counterweight is engineered to address one of the biggest challenges in boom operation: the amplified downward force created by a long pole acting as a lever. Even lightweight microphones can feel significantly heavier over time, especially during extended takes or physically demanding environments.

By adding mass to the base of the boompole, the counterweight shifts the balance point closer to the operator, reducing strain on the arms, shoulders and back. Although the overall weight increases slightly, the pole feels lighter and more stable because the off‑balance lever force is neutralized.

The counterweight is named after Scottish mathematician W.V.D. Hodge and is widely used by experienced boom operators. It is finely machined, foam‑covered for comfort, and designed specifically for Mighty Boom poles. It is not compatible with Avalon or Airo boompoles.

For heavy microphone rigs, multiple counterweights can be stacked to achieve optimal balance.
